AegisGate Security Platform is released under the Apache License 2.0.

What You CAN Do (✅)

  • ✅ Use AegisGate commercially — for profit, at scale, in your products and services
  • ✅ Use AegisGate in closed-source products — you don’t have to open-source your own code
  • ✅ Modify AegisGate — change it, customize it, add features
  • ✅ Distribute modifications — share your version with others, internally or externally
  • ✅ Create derivative works — build new products that include AegisGate code
  • ✅ Sublicense AegisGate — include it as part of a larger product you sell
  • ✅ Use AegisGate for any purpose — there’s no field-of-use restriction
  • ✅ Use AegisGate in patents — you get an explicit patent grant from contributors

What You MUST Do (⚠️)

  • ⚠️ Preserve copyright notices — keep the original copyright notices on AegisGate code intact
  • ⚠️ Include the LICENSE file — when you redistribute AegisGate, you must include the full Apache 2.0 LICENSE text
  • ⚠️ State significant changes — if you modify AegisGate files, you must clearly mark what you changed (e.g., in a CHANGELOG or similar)
  • ⚠️ Don’t use the “AegisGate” name to endorse your product — you can say “based on AegisGate” or “uses AegisGate” but you can’t imply that AegisGate endorses your product (trademark, not copyright)

What AegisGate Security, LLC Does NOT Provide (❌)

  • ❌ No warranty — the software is provided “as is”, with no guarantee that it will work, that it will be secure, or that it will meet your needs
  • ❌ No liability — AegisGate Security, LLC is not liable for any damages, including lost profits, data loss, or security breaches, arising from your use of AegisGate
  • ❌ No support obligation — while we do offer support contracts (see pricing), these are separate from the Apache 2.0 license. The license itself does not obligate us to provide support
  • ❌ No indemnification — if a third party sues you for using AegisGate, AegisGate Security, LLC is not obligated to defend or indemnify you. (For paid tiers, some indemnification may be available under separate commercial agreements.)

What This Means for Different Audiences

If you’re an individual developer or hobbyist

You can use AegisGate in your personal projects, contribute to the open-source project, and even sell your own products that include AegisGate code. Just preserve the copyright notices and LICENSE file.

If you’re a startup or SaaS company

You can use AegisGate as a security layer in your AI products without open-sourcing your own code. You can modify it, but you must clearly mark your changes. You can include it in products you sell, but you must include the LICENSE.

If you’re an enterprise

You can use AegisGate in production, on-premise, in air-gapped environments, and in regulated industries.
